I am the keeper of the cookies.

Found much better weather at the second event of the Ontario Marathon Challenge yesterday. No shivering on the start line for this kid. Once underway I met up with Kyle who set a pace that still allowed us to be sociable. We discussed arrow placement and I compared the size of our Garmins.

The plan was to ride together for the bulk of the event and have a jolly time. A spontaneous appearance in my front tire by a stick/thorn combo switched things up. Not feeling up to the task of catwalking the remaining 65 or so kilometers, I chose the less Hollywood-scriptworthy alternative of swapping tubes.

Chased for a while and realized I may have been a tad overzealous while getting up off the ground and realigning my bars/stem. Partial credit was received for navigating that particular log. Subsequently dialed back the aggressiveness level and took a more patient wait-and-see approach.

Later on, Andrew Decal came into view and we stuck together for a while. The merits of various cycling techniques were hashed over. A demonstration on the effectiveness of Powerbars was performed. Many singletracks were conquered. I never got lost. The finish line eventually appeared. Times were good.

Still enjoying this race series. Big loops to keep it interesting; good feed stations with lots of fruit and assorted powdered Gators to keep everyone from going hungry.

Looks like I have a couple of race-free weekends ahead, but the Canada Cup at Bromont and Nationals the following weekend are just around the corner. Sweet, sweet UCI points. You will be mine.

I leave you with a digital representation of someone posing with baked goods:
