Before the 2010 season gets underway, a little review of racing from last season is in order.
Racing started later than most years, with the first OCUP at Mansfield being the first to be graced with my presence. The first race is always a bit of a shot in the dark with respect to fitness, and I was pleased to not have any significant mental or physical breakdowns on the course.
Grabbed another top-10 OCUP result at the half dusty/half ankle-deep-slop of Albion Hills. Lots of fun to be had while sliding around, and enjoyed the added technical challenge of knee deep puddles and mandatory running. The last 2km was a desperation-filled, bog-running sprint topped off with a bit of cramping, as well as some exciting passing opportunities accompanied with spirited verbal communication. Good manners were exhibited by all...
Put the first notch in the 'W' column at the premier event of the Ontario Marathon Challenge. Had a terrific time with the copious amounts of swoopy singletrack. Confirmed that granola bars spend too much quality time in my mouth while racing, and that I am able to get my vest into my back pocket while staying upright on the bike.
Had a bit of a bike handling fit at the Tremblant Canada Cup in May, but made up for it later that evening with 2 hours of riding in the dark with free caffeinated energy drink, and consistent near-misses with DH riders landing from a jump over/through a fountain. Didn't make the podium, but I do make a brief appearance in this video doing my best running-downhill-awkwardly-while-wearing-carbon-fiber-shoes impression, which is almost as good.
